THE COUGAR'S EYES

I took the soil in my hand
It felt cool in my fingers
Many have walked here deer and man
      The Mountains
      Snow capped
      I climb
      Stare into the Cougar's eyes
I see the reflection of the prey
      I make myself large
      He looks into my eyes
      Does he see the fear
      The desire for tomorrow
Or at that moment am I only a threat
      To be dealt with
      My heart beats fast
      Sweat forms on my head
      I yell
      My voice cracks
      He turns to leave
      I sigh
      Then he looks back
I jump could this be the time of my death
      He runs into the trees
      I walk down the mountain
The beauty of nature surrounds me
