THE ROCK

      Today, I found a rock
      It was very ordinary.
      I picked it up
Held it close to my head.

The rock began to tell me a story,
The voice was soft and ancient.
It told me of ages gone by,
      Of Man fighting Man.

Then of a Man and a Woman,
      They were very different.
His people were from the valley
      Hers from the mountain.

      They met by a stream,
      Looked into each others eyes.
There was the light of the age.
      In that simple glance.

      He rose and she stumbled,
      Neither knew what to do.
      They were young
The elders had told stories of the others.

The attraction between over came the apprehension
      She spoke
How is it you came to this world
He said we have always been here

He asked is your skin soft
      She said
      Soft as the standing water
He walked through the stream to her.

      She took his hand
He startled then moved her hand to his face
      Warmth and peace
      They became one that day

The rock told me that they have been together
      Since that moment
I looked around at the waterfall
      There were two rocks

      Full of love
      They were embracing
      She was a red stone
      He was green
