THEY WERE THREE

      Tomorrow's dawn is far away
I have seen death this day
      He has come not welcome
Yet we could not keep him at bay
      The sky is darker
And the stars will not glimmer
Why is it the young must
      Die so violently

      They were only three
      Two innocent
One with hate in her heart
      A simple walk
For a meal never to be had
      Why she chose these two
      We are never to know

      I try to forgive
      I think I can now
      20 years have passed
But the forgetting is not in me
      I dream
      I remember
The explosion that lit the day

      I wonder at times
What would have become of them
      If they had lived
What if she had stayed home that day
      Who would I be
Would I see the world differently

That is not the way of life
      I can't change that day
      Or the world
So I live with my past
      I accept my actions
      And those around me
