BEFORE SHE LEAVES

The fog comes gliding over the hills
A chill in the air, spreading with a breeze
      Her hair long with curls
A smile both impetuous and contagious

How many times has she come to this place
To think of life's little things
To dream of the water far and near
Ships coming and going through the Gate

      So close to the brink
      Then she steps back, hiding
Soon to be an adult and too meet the challenges
But she wants to hang onto childhood

      Just a little longer
      Too linger with summer sun
Sing with joy of being carefree
As she looks around the hills and the bay

      She doesn't want to leave
The fog slowly creeps from across the water
It will be here soon and always in her heart
No one can take that away from her and again she smiles
