A CHILD'S WORLD

      Shadows on city streets

      The lights cannot illuminate suffering

      Those hidden in dark places

The mind’s little corners where dreams reside

Soft memories easily brought forward into the world

Others do not see, they fear to look

The stars try to lift pain through the night

      Daylight doesn’t change anything

While in the darkness of the mind

      Secrets held, without a whisper

No one wants to hear or know a subtle truth

Better left unspoken, unseen to all concerned

Where does the cycle break, when doors stay shut

Endings and beginnings turned on themselves

      Twisting like a broken tree

Leafs hanging on while still dead

Words spoken, never heard by another

Life ignored, forgotten with the passing years

Still they linger under blankets of wool

Holes in their hearts and clothes

      Broken lives and shattered dreams

Lost in the scenery of daily life

Walk on by and with heads turning away

The homeless child will be there in the morning
