A DAY REMEMBERED

      Hiding on the floor

      Waiting for the light

      She sits in fear

      Her child not born

      Shivering as the building quivers

There was peace in the morning ride

The world changes in the darkness of smoke

Trying to breathe life in last moments

      Where to walk or run

      Where to walk or run

      In the darkness of fire

Dreams of yesterday when it was safe

      Others running about

Cries of horror in halls and stairways

The smell of death all around

Not knowing when the light will come

      Falling to the ground

The child in her never to be born

      Floors disappear beneath her

All she knows now is smoke and fire
