JASMINE

      She laid across my forehead
      I felt the warm fur
      Tickle my brow
      I slowly awakened

      She began to purr
      I reached up
And took her in my arms
      Gently I stoked her chin

      Her blue eyes
      Looking up at me
      She was my friend
      With unconditional love

      I love her the same
For me there would be no other
She stood and arched her back
      Then rubbed against my chin

      This was our morning ritual
I sat up in bed and stretched
      We yawned together
      I smiled at her

I got my clothes out of my drawer
And placed them on the bed
      She laid on them
This is the game we played

      I slowly dressed for school
      She watched ever so close
I wonder what she must think
      How strange my routine

      I walked down to breakfast
      She followed close behind
As I ate she sat in my lap
The constant purr we were both happy

      One day I came home
      She wasnt there
      I looked all around
      She had been sick

My mother told me she had gone away
      I cried that day
      My first lost love
I didnt get to say good bye
