THE MOON ABOVE

      Will I dream tonight
      And wake to angels
      Can life be better than
      This moment in time

      I will net regret leaving
      There is more to do
Maybe it is not my time
      I still can touch others

I sit here in the meadow
The tall grass like a blanket
      The redwoods circle
      Tall and strong

      The moon is full
And rises at the tree tops
      It is full and lights
      The night sky

Will I dream after I die
      And see the morning stars
I wait to feel their wings
      Surround me in warmth

      Life is all around me
      The crickets sing
      A summers evening
The heat of the day still in the air

I hear the sound of my heart beat
And wonder where love has gone
How long has it been now
That my arms have remained empty

      A stirring in the distance
      Someone walking over fallen trees
      Light steps
      Gentle flowing of movement

I see a form coming toward me
Could this a trick of the night
I see it is a woman
      She sits beside me

Her hair slightly tussled in the breeze
      Not a word
      I feel her closeness
      Another soul so near

      Should I speak
      I dont feel invaded
There is a softness to her
      The moon rises higher

      I see her face
      The subtle features
      She is not young
But the grace of beauty remains

      Where has she come from
      Is she an angel
      Will she take me away
      I want peace so much

      She turns toward me
This is not as I had imagined
She asks is this the night of dreams
I am awake but yes I think it is

      She reaches over
      And takes my hand
      Her touch is light
      My hand responds to hers

We both look into the stars
      The sky is clear
      I am not alone
      It has been so long

      She stands
      And pulls me up
      Still holding me
      We walk into the woods
