IN MY ARMS

Tiny fingers reaching for the smiling face
The first time I held you
Eyes so blue, deep and beautiful
A sound soft and touching as you breathe

I laid you across my forearm
      Then stroked your forehead
And dreamed of the woman you would become
A future filled with joy and happiness

Such are the wishes of a father
Someday you will find a life of your own
As you stretch now from my palm to my elbow
You will reach for the stars

Your cries for the necessities of life
      Become the imaginings and successes
Of your generation so young and full of hope
A promise of change to better the world

But for now sleep in my arms
Move your body with the swaying of my heart
Know that I will always love you
Time and place can't keep us apart, my Daughter
