TO THE NIGHT

When dreams begin to take hold in the reality of the mind
Take a journey into what might be and what could have been
Colors streaming by incandescent in the stillness
Where have the travelers been on ships tall

      Waves crashing on wooden decks
      Men yelling commands of desperation
      As the storm approaches
      Motion of water and wind

Take hold of ropes and pray for life
      The wood slips under foot
      Where is god now
      They reach into the heavens

      Looking for salvation
Seeing only dark clouds and damnation
      Water streaming over the bow
Men falling into the sea forever lost

The sea will calm and the names will be forgotten in time
Whether it is right or wrong
Fades from those who have been lost
Children and wives cry, then a new day begins
