THE PEAR TREE

      He watched the tree grow
Year to year they both became taller
One spring the blossoms blessed his tree
He was told that would be the promise sweet delights
The sun shined day after day
A wind came and the petals vanished
      Then the first pears arrived
So small he had to squint
      Still he had to wait
Not easy for one so young
      The fruit turned bright green
      It was so very small
Every morning he checked the tree
      With his brown eyes wide
Standing on his toes to get a closer look
The tear drop began to form
      This amazed him
The fruit turned red green and yellow
Finally he was allowed to pick
      His pear from the tree
At first bite, his mouth all wet
The sweet taste and the smile on his face
The tree grew very tall and the boy became a man
