REFLECTIONS

He stands on the street corner
      The city lights creating shadows
      Of sadness on his face
He holds a single rose, slowly wilting

Reflections of love as the hours pass
      He ponders his past
Many friends have come into his life
      A momentary smile

He stands on the street corner
Waiting for changes in the world
He ponders the pain others inflict
      On the innocent and weak

He gives the rose to a passer by
      Then tries to smile again
Another rose appears in his hands
      He holds it tight, waiting

He stands on the street corner
      Explosions of war all around
      Children running in fear
Screams of terror fill his mind

He walks out into the street
      There on the ground
      The child stretched out quiet
He lays the rose on her chest
