THE RIVER

      Today the waters seemed cold
      They came from everywhere
I had help many in this place
To get to the other side

      I don’t know why I was chosen
For this task or even why it is done this way
      To swim across this river
No one knows for sure what is on the other side

They do know the next step in life
      Starts on that bank
We are here to help them to swim
It is not a hard task but necessary

So I take them by the hand
      Lead them into the shallows
      Then plunge into the water
They must keep their heads up

      I am here to guide
      Show the way
      If they should go under
I lift them just to the surface

This may not seem like much
      It is what I do
I take great joy in the helping
It is my love for the people of the world
