THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS

      The mists of dawn
Fall on me as sleep fades
      The smell of pine
      Sweet in the air

      I look to the sky
      The last star shimmers
      The Mountain cold
      A glow orange and red

The land cascades into the distance
      Shadows of man and nature
      The City lights
Still calm as the sun rises

      A new day has begun
      The forest comes to life
      Spring snow covers the ground
      The rich sounds of birds
A squirrel runs up a tree
      To hidden treasures
      A wild cat yells
In the trees not to close

      The breakfast fire
      Bids a warm welcome
      Eggs and bacon
      A growl in my stomach

      Movement all about the camp
      A child stirs
      The tent vibrates
      A yawn of morning delight

      The cry time to eat
      Then pack the camp
      A days hiking
      Another night and morning
