IF I SEE AGAIN

If I see the ocean again

And feel the water rush up my ankles

I will look out on the waves

      Then see the infinite distance

If I see the stars again

      Against the darkness of space

I will dream of traveling there

      And someday know other worlds

      If I see love again

      The warm touch of another

      I will walk in peace

The kindness in each of us

If I hear the laughter of a child

And see the smile of a mother

      I will know the future

      Of humanity

If I hear the last tear shed

      With the understanding of eternity

      Choices made from love

      And not from hate

If I see the ocean again

And feel the water rush up my ankles

I will look out on the waves

      Then see the infinite distance
