SITTING BY THE BAY

A girl sits by the bay
      Looking across the water
The moonlight flickers on the waves
      Time passes silently

      She dreams of love
      Of the touch of another
      The rock below her
      Hard and unrelenting

      Tomorrow, what will come
      A journey to the stars
      Travel from here
      Nothing is certain

A woman returns to the bay
      Remembering dreams
      Of what might have been
      Realizing life isn't always actuated

Still she dreams of things to come
      Events and challenges
      Now she has lost another
The passing of time, becomes the passing of friends

      A tear, a laugh
      Memories forgotten but not lost
      Love is like the tides
      Always returning then receding

      She has been strong
      There was no choice
      Again her strength rises
And she leaves the rock behind
