A TOUCH OF WINTER

Winter blue and green covered in white

      The mountainside sloping with colors

      Seemingly lifeless like a dream

      Hidden within wooded evergreens

Animals play and eat what little

      Nature provides in the cold

For beauty the eye can behold

Life holds tightly to the buried food

Spring remains far and summer a memory

      Footprints can be found

But again the snow will come to fill them

Deer and elk stand tall, watchful of the land

The Bear sleeps, slowly shedding the his bounty

      Curled within walls of earth

Silent to the world and winter storms

Awaiting spring and abundance to return

      With the wind swaying trees

      Snow falls to the ground

      Bare aspen interspersed naked

Stripped of leafs lifting to the sky
