THE MAN ON THE TOWER

He sat quietly surveying the distant land
      Pondering mysteries
      Beyond his life
      He sits alone

      Solitude

      A cat comes to him
      Brushing up against his leg
      A loud purr
He reaches down to stroke the cats chin

      Friendship

Many days they returns to the tower
      Man and cat
      The mysteries remain
The cat speaks often of adventures

      Traveling

      The tower now far behind
      They can't see it anymore
What was distant is now under foot
Time is catching up to them

      Aging

On a hill they sit next to one another
      Remembering the walk
      Speaking of the past
      Everything is slowing

      Dying

They lay in a field of green grass
The cat asks will I be with you after death
      The man responds
I will know you my friend and we will be together
