VETERANS DAY

      The streets wet and white
      From the snowfall
Another cold day in their lives
      Men older year by year

Survivors all, history speaks of them
      Hero's striding with ribbons
      Children not understanding
But looking as the parade proceeds

      The soldier's faces tell stories
Held silent, with memories not forgotten
Far away lands seen now through books
Years on the calendar to be learned

      Soon they will go
      Leaving their families behind
      To join those long passed
This day we spend remembering their deeds
