WHO IS SHE

      The sun had been shinning
Down on the roof all day
The apartment had reached peak temperature
Sweat was running on my brow

      A knock on the door
      It was her again
I knew she only wanted my ear
      But I was apprehensive

      I opened the door
Let her in and gave her a cup of coffee
      She said hello
      I returned it

      She was quiet
      This was odd
She didnt go into a stream of gossip
      So for once I listened

I didnt think of her a friend
More like someone I saw from time to time
      Her eyes appeared more clear
Or perhaps I just took notice

      As she spoke
      I saw the subtle movements
      Of her lips
      She was sharing of herself

      Talking about her childhood
      She was smiling
      I was laughing
      Glad to be with her

Still in the back of my mind
      I wondered
      Who is this person
      The room began to cool

      The sun had set
      And hours had passed
Maybe there was a chance here
Could I be making a friend

      We moved onto other topics
      All delightful and honest
Have I changed in this moment
Perhaps I never took the time before

      We laughed with joyful smiles
She made fun of how rigid I was
But that today I had changed
I think I was seeing her for the first time

      For many years
      I was writing her off
      What a mistake
      So much pleasure ignored

      She smiled with full lips
And said good bye my friend
I saw in her eyes true life
Good bye my friend I hope to see you soon
