WINTER WILLOW

      Leaves forgotten with Autumn’s passing
A woolen blanket lying on a patch of snow
The wind cool but without bite
Wine glasses filled with cranberry juice

The sun low, ready to set beyond mountains fair
The sky aglow with colors of cooling and the promise of warmth
A mixture certain to bring on the return of morning
Venus low in the sky standing watch over the events of Earth

She is the mistress to which we look and see hope for another time
The couple lay back on the blanket
Peering into the starlight, searching for new beginnings
Silently a flicker comes into view

On wings of blue light, transparent to the seeing eye
Surrounded by whispers, enticing thoughts unbound
Lifted spirits rise motionless, love without condition
An outstretched hand takes the couple upward

Dormant limbs of the willow move in the directing of light being
Left to its solitude once again, the willow finds peace
To wonder when spring does come and leaves return to the limbs
The sun will shine once more with strength and fill the willow with desire
